Information you provide directly

• Book files — EPUB and PDF files you import. These are stored locally on your device only. We do not upload your book files to our servers.
• Book text — When you convert a book, excerpts of the text are sent to our AI processing partners (Anthropic and Replicate) to generate your graphic novel. See Section 4 for details.
• In-app purchases — Subscription and purchase transactions are processed entirely by Apple. We receive only confirmation that a purchase was made; we never see your payment details.

Information collected automatically

• Anonymous device ID — A randomly generated identifier stored on your device. Used only to attribute panels you generate to the server cache. Not linked to your identity.
• Generated panel images — AI-generated manga panels are uploaded to our server cache (Cloudflare R2) and may be served to other users who request the same book in the same style. See Section 5.
• App usage — We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (e.g. number of conversions, most popular styles). This data cannot identify you.

3. What we do not collect

• We do not require account creation. You can use Tobi without providing any personal information.
• We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information unless you contact us voluntarily.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not access your device camera, microphone, or contacts.
• We do not use third-party advertising networks or sell your data to any third party.

Converting a book to a graphic novel requires sending portions of your book text to the following third-party AI services:

5. Community panel cache

When you convert a book, the AI-generated panel images are uploaded to our shared server cache. This means:

• Other users who convert the same book in the same style will receive panels from the cache, without incurring additional AI processing costs.
• Panel images may be displayed on the Explore screen to other Tobi users.
• Panel images are associated only with the book title and art style — not with your identity or device.
• The book text itself is never stored on our servers. Only the generated images are cached.

Ownership of generated panels: All panel images are generated entirely by Tobi's AI pipeline. These images are owned and operated by Tobi and do not constitute personal data. You have no right to request removal of cached panel images on the basis that you initiated the conversion that produced them.

Exception — harmful content: If you believe a generated panel contains content that is defamatory, obscene, or otherwise harmful, you may report it to . We will review such reports and remove content at our sole discretion.

6. Data retention and deletion

• Book files — stored locally on your device. Deleted when you remove them from your library or uninstall the app.
• Generated panels (local) — stored in your device's app storage. Cleared when you uninstall the app.
• Generated panels (server cache) — retained indefinitely to serve future users. Removal requests are only considered for content that is defamatory, obscene, or otherwise harmful.
• Anonymous device ID — cleared when you uninstall the app.
• Purchase records — retained by Apple in accordance with their policies.

7. Children's privacy

Tobi is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through our app, please contact us at and we will delete it promptly.

Tobi is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your book text will be processed by AI services whose servers may be located in the United States or elsewhere. By using Tobi, you consent to this processing.

GDPR (European users): Our lawful basis for processing your book text is contract performance — you request a conversion, we process the data necessary to fulfil it. You have the right to access, rectify, or erase your data. Contact to exercise these rights.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Tobi after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
